The paint has been lined in the past. The treatment was motivated by the many tears present in the original canvas. The paint layer reveals many degradations, such as abrasion, lacunas, and paint lifting. The varnish is oxidized and yellowed. Aged retouchings and overpaints have changed colour and alter the perception of the original composition.

Sophisticate examination methods have enabled to visualise the extend of the degradations present. An examination under UV light (image above) revealed the overpaint. It can be seen that the lower half of the face and right shoulder are overpainted (darker areas). An infrared reflectography shows bright areas in the neck of the girl (image below, circled in red). They indicate the presence of infillings, placed during a previous restoration.

Treatments carried out are: dirt removal, varnish removal, consolidation of the support, fixations of the paint layer, removal of overpaint, aesthetic reintegration and applying a final varnish.
